Discussions & Rss

Posted by penuruloki on April 28, 2006

On one last note, you don’t have to register to leave comments, so feel free to join the discussion.

And you should add the comments feed in the sidebar to the right to your RSS/Atom feed reader software to easily keep up with the discussions too. In fact, if you’re in Morris, I will personally come over to your dwelling and set up the software for you. It’s that important to me that people learn of the joy that is RSS.

Sex, Sex, Sex

Posted by penuruloki on April 28, 2006

I realized last night just how much about my gaming sessions comes from angsty geeks that aren’t getting any. All night long it’s sex jokes. Even if not much happens in-game, the night becomes mostly about sex. Last night Pete’s character officially became a whore, but that’s more about being bored. I need to do a better job with the hooks. I’m quite pleased with how Sam’s new character is performing in the campaign, so I’ve promised rumors to the rest of them now as well. I’ll be relieved when the full game rules come out so I don’t have to wing it on just about everything, but I think I may finally have things worked out on how to turn it into a real campaign.

Yes, I’m slow.

I am officially in lust.

Seagate has a new hard drive out. 750GB. With four such beasts, I could have 1.5TB usable storage in RAID 10 (instead of my current 480GB usable in RAID 5).

They also recently release a 300GB 15K RPM SCSI drive. I’ll never have the coin to play in that arena, but I can dream.

Theming

Posted by penuruloki on April 26, 2006

Blogs, like life, have themes. I’ve stolen mine from a theme site. The original author is linked somewhere on this page (it might be moving), but I’ve modified the color scheme to fit my taste. The bright whites and pastels are too much for me. So now your eyes get to suffer.

I’ve actually come up with a theory as to why I’m so much more wedded to white-on-black. I’m a known fan of torchiere lamps, and keep two in my living room. I don’t know off hand what’s in them now, but in the good old days, I kept twin 150 watt light bulbs in them. I had a bright living room. I like light. It may seem odd given the title of the blog, but I don’t like living in a cave.

My workspace is a cave. I think I just can’t get enough ambient light into the area, so the monitors seem unusually bright in comparison. That’s my theory anyway. I may be full of it (I usually am), but it seems to work. I’m old enough to resist change now though, so I’ll stick to my ways.

There’s obviously more work to be done with the site, but I think it’s taking shape well enought to go public. I’ve switched my Facebook profile link. My next step is to leave a parting post on Xanga to redirect visitors. I’ll do that soon enough.

WordPress vs. Xanga

Posted by penuruloki on April 25, 2006

I’m still experimenting with WordPress, but the feeds are a definite improvement

The original posts show up in one feed like so:

Blog Posts
The comments for all posts will show up like this:

Blog Comments in Vienna
It’s not quite as organized as I’d like, and there’s obviously no comment posting facility, but you can easily see when people leave comments, and can respond quickly. Thus, it can still help facilitate discussion.

Now I get to see if the images kill our bandwidth at all. 🙂

First Psot!

Posted by penuruloki on April 24, 2006

Alright. I’m planning to ditch Xanga, so I should try out WordPress a bit first. I’m not running because I hate the interface, or because of any of their pay features. It isn’t even a control issue. It’s out of dissatisfaction with the lack of RSS for comments. I realize that I also lack a reader that uses a comments feed, but that will be my next project. One step at a time.
